FACIAL CONTOURING

Facial contour correction is a procedure that helps correct age-related facial changes by injecting specially developed gels (fillers) under the skin. In my work, I use only fillers based on stabilized hyaluronic acid (HA).

Why HA?
Today, almost all hyaluronic acid is produced biotechnologically rather than being derived from humans or animals. This minimizes the risk of allergic reactions. In addition, HA fully meets the requirements for intradermal fillers: it has excellent tissue compatibility, is non-cytotoxic, hypoallergenic, provides a sufficiently long-lasting corrective effect, and is economically reasonable.

HA-based gels are considered temporary (or biodegradable) fillers. They completely break down in the tissues into CO₂ and water and are naturally eliminated from the body. Thanks to this, correction of age-related changes is fully predictable, and the risk of complications is extremely low.

The essence of the procedure
During the procedure, a gel is injected into the desired correction area. By lifting the tissues, it smooths folds and wrinkles or adds extra volume. The filler is introduced either using the classic needle technique or with a cannula. A cannula is a long blunt-tipped needle that, when moving through tissues, separates them rather than tearing them. This makes it possible, for example, to avoid blood vessels. As a result, tissue trauma is significantly reduced, lowering the risk of bruising and hematomas.

Since the structure of different skin areas varies greatly, HA preparations are produced with different viscosities. Viscosity directly depends on the size of HA particles or the number of chemical bonds formed during stabilization.

A specialist must have an excellent understanding of the anatomy and structure of the treatment area, the characteristics of the injected product, and the injection techniques, since the proper use of fillers ensures effective correction of aesthetic concerns.

It is also important to consider that the soft tissues of the face and even individual skin layers differ in density. Therefore, if a very soft and flexible filler is injected into deeper layers, it may degrade more quickly and the correction may be insufficient. On the other hand, injecting a denser gel into superficial layers can lead to overcorrection.

Indications for the use of HA-based fillers:
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Perioral wrinkles (smoker’s lines, marionette lines)
  • Periorbital wrinkles (“crow’s feet”; best results when combined with botulinum toxin)
  • Forehead and glabellar wrinkles (best results when combined with botulinum toxin)
  • Enhancement of cheekbone and chin volume
  • Lip augmentation and shape correction

Contraindications:
  • Presence of permanent fillers in the treatment area
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Acute phase of chronic illnesses
  • Herpes
  • Inflammatory skin conditions
  • Tendency to form keloid scars
  • Relative contraindications include the use of blood-thinning medications, as they significantly increase the risk of hematomas.
